I am passionate about using truly natural, pure products on the skin.  I believe that the difference on what you put on your skin & its effeccts has to do with quality of the ingredients used. Nature has given us an abundance of options, it really isn’t necessary to change much.  We are incredibly lucky as these days there are some truly wonderful 100% natural and organic ingredients available, so there really is no excuse for using poorer quality synthetic substitutes.

One ingredient I often get asked about is Emulsifying Wax.  I am a big believer in not using a product unless I know all the ingredients it contains, and I apply this to food, skincare and even cleaning products.  To me emulsifying wax is a tricky one as it is a catch all name for a whole range of ingredients which fulfill the role of emulsifying (joining) oil and water to form a cream or lotion, making it hard to know exactly what you are getting.

It is a known datum that both water and oil do not mix together and require a medium for them to coexist.  Numerous products have been developed over the years to help create this coexistence by producing a wax that has both a water loving end and an oil loving end.  This ensures that when both water and oiil are used in a product they do not seperate but essentially exist as one.

In the past the majority of emulsifying waxes were petroleum derived, and if a product lists only ‘emulsifying wax’ in its ingredients you can be sure that’s what it is.

More recently vegetable and natural emulsifying waxes have become available to keep up with the demand for natural products.

It is important to understand where the emulsifying wax comes from and how it is extracted or made to ensure that while the end product may be naturally dervived, the process of how it was derived may have been through a lot of chemical processes which could have potentially left traces of these toxic ingredients in the end product.

I think it’s important that every ingredient of the products you use works with the skin, nourishing it and supporting it’s natural functions.

After a long time of researching and looking into the waxes available, their extraction process and end product I have chosen a Natural Vegetable Emulsifying wax that is derived from olives.  It is composed of Cetearyl Olivate and Sorbitan Olivate.  It not only offers the ability to combine the water and oil (emulsify) but it also helps nourish and protect the skin.

I use this emulsifying wax in most of my moisturizers but there are some that I don’t . .

I have successfully formulated three unique organic moisturizers that are very potent and do not use an emulstifying wax but instead combine the water and oil with only beeswax.  It has been believed that this process is not possible and that it cannot be done however after a lot of trial and error I have mastered this technique and produced a moisturizer that contains no emulsifying wax at all.  It is a longer techique than making usual moisturizers that use an emulsifying wax, but it gives a truely unique and fully natural product that does not exist on the market today.

Please note that these are not balms which are generally a thicker, solid product, but are in fact of a lotion consistency.

One might think that this would be a heavy, greasy moisturizer but you will be surprised at its ability (at a small amount) to seamlessly absorb into the skin and perfectly moisturizer it.  Unrefined and organic beeswax is full of antibacterial properties and forms a protective barrier on the skin and does NOT clog the pores.  It is also rich in Vitamin A; a vital component to healthy, younger looking skin.

One might ask why would I create a product like this instead of a solid balm. The answer is that I find the addition of water to a product helps with the absorbtion of the other products within.  This is even true with face oils, where they are better absorbed straight after you wash or tone your skin and before it completely dries.

To see the products that we offer that are truely unique please see the options below.  I am sure you will be pleasently surprised at what they have to offer:

Can it be used in solid balm/body bar etc?

Does it cause it to foam if used in shower/on wet skin

No an emulsifying wax is not generally used in a balm or solid bar. A hard or semi hard wax would usually be used such as beeswax, rice bran wax, shea butter, etc. In terms of foaming emulsifying waxes don’t do that. They are simply there to combine water and oil. A surfactant is generally what is used for foaming action such as coco glucoside, decyl glucoside. In saying that some surfactants can be used to add a little bit of oil to a water product such as facial toners that contain essential oils, etc, but they are used in a small amount as otherwise they will foam.
