What Preservatives We Use

Why We Carefully Choose Preservatives for Your Skincare

When it comes to skincare, every ingredient matters. At Miod, we know that what you put on your skin should be safe, effective, and created with intention. One of the most common questions we receive is: “Why do you use preservatives?” Let’s address this openly and share our philosophy behind preservatives in skincare.

Why Preservatives Matter

Skincare products often contain water, botanical extracts, and active ingredients — all of which can create the perfect environment for bacteria, yeast, or mould to grow if left unprotected. Without preservatives, your serum or cream could spoil within days, posing serious risks to your skin’s health. Preservatives aren’t just about extending shelf life; they’re about keeping you safe.

The Preservatives We Use

We don’t take the choice of preservatives lightly. Every ingredient we select is backed by scientific research, internationally recognized safety certifications, and deep investigation into how it is made. Our preservative system includes:

  • Leucidal – A natural antimicrobial derived from fermented radish root.

  • Plantaserv C (Sodium Levulinate & Sodium Anisate) – Naturally derived preservatives that protect against harmful microorganisms, approved by COSMOS and EcoCert.

  • Glyceryl Caprylate – A multifunctional ingredient that not only protects formulas but also conditions the skin.

  • Sodium Dehydroacetate – A gentle, effective preservative widely used in natural formulations.

Each of these has been carefully chosen to balance efficacy, skin compatibility, and sustainability.

Our Research-Driven Approach

We go beyond opinions. Our team delves into the science — examining how ingredients are produced, where they come from, and how they behave in formulations. Only when an ingredient meets our strict standards for safety, performance, and certification (COSMOS & EcoCert) do we consider it.

This commitment ensures that what reaches your skin is not only safe but also aligned with the highest global standards.

The Role of pH in Skincare Formulation

Another factor that often goes overlooked is pH. A preservative’s effectiveness — and the performance of active ingredients — depends on the final pH of the product.

For example, in our Australian Native Vitamin C Serum and Blemish Gel, we use Niacinamide (Vitamin B3). For B3 to deliver its full skin benefits, it must sit at a pH of around 6. We tailor our preservative system to work harmoniously at this level, ensuring the product is both stable and effective. After all, if a product doesn’t perform, what’s the point?

Our Promise to You

We understand concerns around preservatives, but we want you to know this: our choices are intentional, researched, and guided by science. We believe skincare should protect, not harm — and preservatives are a vital part of that protection.

At [Your Brand Name], every bottle is a reflection of our values: safety, transparency, effectiveness, and care for your skin.
